Semen That Upskirt!

Singapore, a small nation overpopulated with close to 6 million individuals is a country that has been coveted by so many awards.

The list of awards and achievements are endless – but at what cost?

We have not fared too well in the ‘Happiness Index’ despite achieving spectacular economic growth. In 2006, we ranked a low 131 out of 178 countries surveyed and in 2009, 49 out of 143.

Our neighbours, Indonesia, listed as one of the most corrupt in the world and considered a 3rd world country ranks 16 in 2009 and 23 in 2006!!

In recent months ahead of Singapore’s General Election, the Civil Service has come under scrutiny for a series of high profile cases of public concern. Fraud by a high ranking Singapore Land Authority officer, Harbouring A Prisoner of State and Child Pornography by Ministry of Education officers and most recently today, a Singapore Police Force civillian officer featured in the news for taking upskirt shots of his female colleagues and tainting their drinks with his sperm.

With so much happening in Singapore, what is the cause of all these?

Is it because Singaporeans are too stressed up and thus, pushed to behave in such manner that is not considered normal in our society?

The individual in question, Sim Keng Tee must have been doing these activities for a very long time already since when his house was raided, there were more videos uncovered and he is to be charged for a total of 10 charges so far with another 149 still being considered!

How many victims has he has?

But more importantly, what led to him having such behaviour and when did it start?

I think these are the two more pertinent questions to ask rather than for anyone to immediately jump to conclusions to question his morality.

Reason being is simple, if he is the one caught for such activities, I’m quite sure there are more of such individuals out there who are still not arrested yet. And for those who are still roaming free indulging in these activities, help needs to be rendered to them but help can only be rendered when the cause is known since we already know the effects.

I’d like to think that he started out as a man of honour and I’m sure that this can happen to anyone.

There must have been a chain or series of incidences which led him to such state, down the gutter and for us who are perhaps still considered ‘normal’, we need to know what had caused this so that we can avoid it.

He was working in the Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters and I’m sure that being there, it must have been a very stressful environment. And I’m sure we all know that for every stress, there must be an avenue for release and the activities that he partake in could have been the only method he knew to release such stress – one that was non-violent to himself and others yet invaded the privacy of another, which perhaps he judged was a fair trade-off in exchange for violence.

Sickening and Disgusting as how the news have labeled him, I believe he deserves a chance to explain why and to be understood before he is to be judged not just in court but in public. I’m just not sure if the media will be willing to cover such a story that is sympathetic to someone who has already been judged a ‘Sicko’, an accused.
